diving with a kiss vs inspiration/evolution

i am not a rebreather diver but am considering crossing over some time this year, i would buy either a kiss or evo/insp.
could some one tell the actual diving differences with these two different types, eg descent with a kiss compared to descent with evo/insp. but for whole dive

sorry, the question i really meant to ask would be, at a normal swimming pace how often is user intervention required on a kiss ?

I've just bought a second hand inspiration after several months of pondering over the same problem.

In the end I ruled out an evo/vision due to cost (not really being sure if I'd take to RB diving) & wanting to let others iron out any software problems!

I ruled out a new inspiration as for another £700 you could buy a new evo/vision.


So the choice was a second hand insp or KISS.

Although the KISS is simple to operate & less cluttered the benefits of the insp pushed me down the AP route.

Some of the reasons I chose the insp over the KISS are:

Spares easier to get hold of & customer service (bigger company + company reputation)

Resale (as I say I'm not sure how I'll find RB diving) - easier to shift an insp over a KISS just because people are more likely to trust/buy something they see on a daily basis (advertising wins!)..

Ins RB courses are a little better established.

No major modifications after every other batch (02 valve & new switches on back of KISS hand set)

The company I work for did the independent tests & it passed (no mean feat!)

A lot more people to help you (two of my friends have insp units)

New KISS is same price as new insp (after all extra bits, import, VAT, etc are added)

& one major one: on ascent if you loose the plot it tries to keep you alive by pumping o2 into the loop!

I know it wont sweeten the bitterness, but Clare and I took delivery of our Evos yesterday. I reacon the total wait time was 15 months as I had originally been told Jan 04. I came close to throwing my toys out of the pram on many occasions, but there wasn't an alternative that I was happy with.

I would like to say that AP is now forgiven, but not just yet.

Hang in there, they are great units.

as i said iam not yet a rebreather diver, i may also be over complicating things but i like many other people i dont really trust electronics in water, this is probably a crazy idea but what if you were to add a kiss valve to the inspiration so that the valve did most of the work then when neccesary the electronics did their bit, i.e. increased workload so more more o2 needed ?

just use another 1.5 l bottle or something, and surely theres some where you could put a hose into the loop, in theory i think it would work, just needs some configuring
