| Why not a KISS? So once again I'm rebreather dithering. While at the pot yesterday, I got the opportunity to try on a KISS. I *really* liked the lack of front mounted clutter, and am very tempted. Now I'm curious why people who chose other units didn't choose the KISS. What are the disadvantages? Not ECCR? WOB? etc. And what's the support like? It's still hypothetical at the moment, not least becuase I've got to stay dry for 4 weeks. Janos PS - There's a SH one on the BSAC small ads for £2.5k. Anyone know what the going rate is?

2.5K ready to fly is not a bad price. Kiss is a great unit and I wanted one before I was coerced inot buying a YBOD by Andyp. I like it a lot but now having flown a YBOD i think all future CCRs will be full electronic units. Yes i know they have problems but Ultimatly i want to dive I dont want to be watching my hand sets all the damed time. I could be tempted by a KISS with a HUD but thats about it. Apart from that they travle light they are versitile so you can use them in most places and they are streemlined in comparison to the YBOD. Suport is going to be a little more of an issue as your in the UK but I here its prety good. Mind you when a hand set fails you cant just jump in the car and drive there to get it sorted. For 2.5K you can get a YBOD so there is no major cash saving even with new YBODs compared to new KISS units. ATB Mark Chase

| Cheers Mark, I'm coming to the conclusion that the best thing to do at the moment is spend c. £3k on a secondhand YBOD or KISS to learn on. I have no real preference over ECCR or MCCR, but I do like the OTS counterlungs on the KISS. I think a couple of trydives might be in order in a month or so. Janos

| Meg Have you thought about a Megladon from Innerspace Systems and soon to be with Custome Divers. This unit does have over the shoulder C/L. One of the differences with this unit is that you can recover if you are unlucky enough to flood the loop. training is available from Chris Hutchison amongst others. It is a very robust unit that is very easy to fly and trim. I did a lot of deliberating and this came out with the most ticks in the boxes. It is very easy to travel with too. Hope this helps, if you need more info please mail me. R Mike |

The KISS Classic has rear/back mounted counterlungs. The Sport KISS may soon be fitted with a needed one OTS shoulder CL. The work of breathing in the Classic is not appreciably harder than some dual over-the-shoulder OTS models. Since the Classic and older Inspirations are selling cheap you will certainly have a buyers market as people move up for the fancier units. Personally, I think the KISS Classic is a slightly more robust unit than the older Insp. although I like the fact that the Insp. has shown it's capability in many a harsh & deep diving situtation. Again, it comes down to buyer preference..but I certainly like the fact the KISS is so clean and compact. Last edited by Ken : 30-08-05 at 02:44 AM. |
