Heliox electronics for the KISS

Following on from another thread...

Just wondering what's happening with the Heliox system at the moment. They're website is down and I was keeping half an eye on it.

I definitely want a HUD (am also considering Uri's system) and integrated deco / monitoring is nice. But I would quite happily be without the parachute solenoid, as I can't see myself using it, but I can see it failing.

I'm still new on the unit, so I'm not going to rush out and make mods, but I was wondering what others are currently thinking (I know we've done this a bit before).

I don't have a VR3, and given the cost of a new C4 VR£, especially with VPM-B, the DiveDrive and Tachyon look to be a good deal. Of course I would need a backup timer.

Do you know if I am right in thinking that the HUD a one LED system, and that you can chose the ppO2 range for the different colours?

That's what Smudger's thinking, I think.
I want to know a bit more aboujt the OC bailout options on the Tachyon.

Janos
It is a single tri-colour LED (unless it's changed) monitoring all 3 cells.
As to he user settable, I'm not sure, but I think it's mre like Uri's i.e. user specifiable at time of purchase rather then user settable.

The parachute solenoid is an odd one. On one hand during a silt out lost line excreta fan interface moment it could save the life of a KISS diver who is breathing like a train and task loaded. On the other hand it could lull the KISS diver into not monitoring his hand sets??

Tough one. I have to say the problem with solenoids is the battery power they take to fire. On more than one occasion my YBOD unit was working with no low battery warning showing but not enough power to fire the solenoid. If the Solenoid is only going to function occasionally i could imagine it becoming stiff and hard to operate and needing regular maintenance. I can also imagine the batteries giving up when its actually needed.

That said a HUD is an excellent idea and defiantly a minimum requirement for me to dive a KISS (or a YBOD for that matter) in anger.

I am waiting too!!!
I had a look and it has good back up options assuming it works...
The LED is a single with Tricolour I'm not sure how you change the settings but the site said it was possible.
But the tachyon is dry port so no extra holes in the unit which is always good.
Yes a backup timer is needed but wouldn't you carry that in any diving???
but at least the tables are going to be printable so no need to change to another if they are any good.....
The parachute valve is adjustable but it doesnt say how??
I agree might be best just to leave it off..
Apart from that will it ever make production as it does seem to have gone quite on the western front a bit!!
