Cool QC o-rings - beware!

Just thought I share my weekends experience with other Kiss divers....

I have been using the new QC fittings on both head and DSV for some time now without problems. However, recently I have been having leaks around the QC o-rings on the DSV side and have had to regrease them much more often than before. I guess they do get worn over time and it is about time I change them...

During the predives checks on saturday I could not get the negative nor the positive pressure test to hold... When I did the negative test I could hear a slight air intake noise somewhere on the exhale side, but with the boat's engine noise I could not be sure. I used washing up liquid to find the leak, but could not find any bubbles.. very odd. Wondered if I had a hole in the hose somewhere, or in teh mushroom valve, but all seemed ok. So instead of jumping in on the dive to start with I just went in last and sat on the surface on the shortline.. once I put my head underwater it was very clear where the leak came from... so out I went again. Disconnected the QC to find I had somehow pushed the o-ring out of it's groove in one spot when previously connecting it up... I do remember wagely that it was hard work connecting it... anyway. I took a bit more care to reconnect the fitting and now the pressure tests held fine. So I went for a quick dive just to confirm it all worked.. which it did.

Just as well, as we had fantastic viz 20m+ on the dive on Sunday and I would have been really cheesed of if I had to miss that dive.

Were out in the separation zone at the back of IOW.

So watch those o-ring connections... (probably obviuous, but there you go....)
