| Nick Thanks for the message. In so far as open water training is affected by the recent EU regulation (CEN's), I understand that a dive assistant qualified to at least an equivalent of Divemaster is required if open water training is to take place in unfavourable conditions such as poor viz or strong currents etc, this would satisfy the HSE requirement to have a diver competent in rescue skills as a second person in the water. If training is to be carried out in good conditions (I would say that Stoney would usually be considered to be good), a qualified rescue diver (with HSE medical) will still be acceptable. There are other implications in the CEN's with regards to other levels of training and information that must be provided to students in advance of any training. I would stress that this is my interpretation and should not be relied upon. Although I have discussed this with PADI and feel it to be correct in so far as the information stated, any professional trainer should read the changes to EU regulation and check with their training agency should they have any concerns. |

| Eh Whar a Nanny state we live in.... one instructor and a further rescue diver required...with HSE medical? why would a rescue diver have a HSE medical? In Stoney at a weekend!!!...I'll bet that there are millions of them, no, Billions.
