NAS Training

Hi, wasn't sure where to post this, but wanted to know if anyone else from YD was planning to do any of the following: I haven't done anything with the NAS before but thought they might be a nice dive related thing to do in the off season. I haven't booked yet so don't know about availability. Also, could anyone who has done the introduction to underwater and foreshore archaeology give some idea of what is involved as their website is a bit vague.

I did this earlier this year and can recommend it. The course opens up a wealth of extra training organised by the NAS in Portsmouth - want a hand at corricle building?

The Part 1 is basically a couple of days lectures with a few practicles - mapping out artifacts on land and then UW. It's good fun do it.

Not sure how much I'll take it forward; the thought of finding a really old wreck and mapping it out, finding out about it has a very romantic edge to it but the amount of painstaking work is just incredible and not something I'm really cut out for; combine that with the legal side of doing so here in Ireland and its enough to put off all but the most dedicated.

It was great to see some of the work they have done tho.

Hi Iestyn

Rich and I are planning to do the course on the 11th December - I just need to send the deposit and form off to them.

When I phoned last week, there were still a number of places available on that course if anyone else wants to join us (and the price goes up to £50 in 2005!).
