Buddy wanted for Kent Sussex Shore dives

Hi I am a looking for buddy that's interested in getting wet in the sea around the Kent & Sussex area, I might be up for a few boat dives but i just wanted to make the most of the summer in the UK.

I currently have just under 70 dives mostly sea (med, red sea etc), I have done a few UK dives out of Weymouth, I am crrently taking my Dive master exams and I am nitrox certified but dont have the cash for my new tanks just yet.

I am available most weekends from now until the weather changes.

Ron

Hi ron

Ive done a few shore dives around folkestone and Dover. A lot cheaper than boat dives. Ive always wanted to dive under Brighton pier. Wonder if thats possible from the shore....?

Regards Rob

Thumbs up

My friend Matt and I have dived Brighton Pier as a shore dive a couple of times. Once was binned as the viz was bad, and once ran to 83 minutes!! It is doable but there some things to consider:

1) It's a bit of a schlep - kit up on the parade, and then walk down a long ramp, or a flight of stairs, and then across the shingle before you hit the water

2) You have hassle parking if you don't get there early.

3) You get groups of schoolchildren and their teacher come up to you, (like we did recently), after asking us with an innocent voice where Matt had got the lobster from, the teacher stated loudly for all to hear: "You see children, this is an example of TAKING". We felt like pirates!!!

It is good diving if you get good viz though. Loads of life, money dropped from the pier (I got £5 in pound coins there on one dive) and nice long bottom times. As a bonus if you make your own v-weights you can haul loads of old fishing weights up too.

Trebor, I would love some info on any of the locations you have dived, I did try the 'Dive Kent' book but i had trouble finding the loactions for the shore dives when i went to look.

I up for a dive Sunday at Newhaven if anyones interested.
