the only problem we find is something that you've identified already.

we're failing to fill 4 club trips from eastbourne for next year, as most folk don't want to commit any cash until the day before the trip - and even then with the option to stay in bed on the day and not lose a deposit

Ok, I will follow this up (shortly) - having some panic at the moment, one item of which is having lost my Mum's car keys.

I understand the comments about putting up posts on YD about spaces being available etc BUT not every local diver is a forum type or a YD type or maybe only a BSAC forum type.

All I am thinking is that IF there is a core of local(ish) divers that are all on something like the Yahoo groups thing where everyone gets an email sent to the group then it is much easier to maintain and reaches everyone who has email.

I imagine most skippers have there own ever increasing email distribution list BUT it MAY be of use for every local diver who wants to be included to be on an email distribution list.

I do not want to start a club or arrange soirees I just want a quick and easy way of putting emails out to all those who are involved. Doing it this way means that people can join at any stage and existing 'members' don't even have to update their email sddresses.

That would be too much effort. When the group email thingy is up and running we all sign on ourselves and wait for the emails to roll in.

OK, I have opened a group called Diving From Eastbourne (catchy name don't you think? ).

There is no obligation to do anything if you 'join' and, AIUI, the worst that happens is you will receive emails from other members.

I have started the group as "private" which I believe means that only existing members may invite others to join.

If interested, them PM or email me your email addresses.

Please also note - this is not a dive club. It is up to YOU to ensure you are dived up, have the right kit, dive plan etc. Ideally you will provide your own buddy. In short, the usual non club charter booking rules apply. Confirmation of taking a space is to be made direct to the relevant skipper (unless otherwise specified). You say YES then you are expected to pay.

What you should do is set up a website and call it sometihng like Eastborne Divers - or ED for short... then people who are in need of buddies can all locate each other if they would like to dive with someone.

You may get people from other parts of the country/world wanting to join though...

OK, as of now (12:50, Wed 16th Aug) if you were expecting but haven't rcv'd an invite to join the Diving From Eastbourne group then I have not processed your request.

1. PM me your email address and I will send an invite.
2. Try http://www.smartgroups.com/group/group.cfm?GID=3507810 and select the "join option".

I reiterate that this is primarily a mechanism by which to send emails to everyone in the group advising of spaces on boats .............. and anything else you want, I guess.

Anyone who joins is free to invite anyone else to join and anyone can send the emails.

There are currently 5 members and 4 invitees ....... nearly a charter boat load!

Catch 22 realy, I want to hear about the dives but only mid week ones. I cant do many due to my comitments to the gas diving but its always nice to see what hapening in case I get a chance. I have done some great dives this year on that basis.

On the other hand I get fed up with loads of emails.

The YD gig thing works reely well for me.

Mark,

I fully understand your comments - as I mentioned earlier, using this group I know that all members will get the message IF they read their emails as opposed to waiting for everyone to log on to YD.

Bryan

ps: This is in addition to the YD Gig thing, NOT a replacement.

Ooh ooh ohh. Me too! Pick me!

I'm in the Eastbourne locality (I live in Northiam) and i'm up for a bit more diving than my London based club can currently offer me.

What do I do now?
