Would you call Eastbourne local for diving?

I am considering putting together a cabal of local divers that consider Eastbourne as the local dive location.

The purpose being that everyone in the group would sign up for one of these FREE group thingies where, when any member sends an email it goes to ALL divers on the group.

1. I am not trying to start a club.

2. If anyone signs on it is taken as read that they are competent divers able to plan their own dives etc and would ideally have their own buddies. I'm specifically interested in "up to 40 mrts" - at least until I'm a bit more settled with my new rig.

3. This is just a way of letting potentially interested divers know if there are spaces available - specifically if it is a case of getting another 5 or 6 divers or we don't go.

4. It may be of no use BUT it is free to set up and ...............

5. I have posted this on the BSAC board too.

6. This is a no committment option. When you say "I take that place!" then the usual charter rules apply - no show you still pay, the dive is between you and your buddy etc etc.

In my particular club we only have 2 (maybe 3) who regularly go diving now so we are never going to be able to fill a whole charter - this is a good way to get to hear of local spaces.

If enough people chuck in their name then I'm sure all the local Skippers will put up spare spaces/empty days info?

Actually, I suppose this is better when it is run by the local Skippers and we, the divers, sign on to receive info from them?

I just want to get to hear of more spaces being available. I am to reluctant to comit to many dives too far in advance ...........

Your link just opens an email BUT the group thing is exactly what I'm looking for but for all local boats/divers. Although I can see that not all boats would want to subscribe to the same group BUT if each had its own group .........

Hmm...try sending a blank mail to:
sussexdivers-subscribe@yahoogroups.co.uk

Alternatively you should be able to go to
Yahoo! Groups and access them from there.

I think you're on to a winner there. I'm on a couple of small email lists but it would be great to have a bigger pool of divers.

the problem with regional stuff is that people often contemplate dives in multiple regions, or are visiting somewhere, or are already sick of being members of too many sites/weblists/cheerleader appreciation societies.

Maybe just a post in the trips area, prefaced with "eastbourne" would suffice. It's also normally a good idea to advertise to others about the good stuff going on.
