Swanage 1st to 4th Sept

SHMBO and myself will be in Swanage for the first time next weekend, staying Fri, Sat and Sunday nights. MrsDragon doesn't dive so will anyone else be there and fancy meeting up for a dive or few? Failing that, how about meeting up for a beer or a few more

Gareth

I can't make it but just wondered what diving you have planned? I did a couple of days out of Swanage earlier in the year that was enough to last me a lifetime.

The choice of wrecks seems a little limited to say the least with the Kyarra being every other dive.

If you plan on going from the pier you need to be in the queue *early* - like 45mins or an hour before they open the gates.

Hi Gareth
Enjoy yourself at Swanage, even if you can't get on the pier the other car parks are reasonably close and you can always get a trolley for the final bit. It's a good place if you have a non diving partner as you won't be gone for too long, and there is something for them to do while you dive, also the surrounding area is very picturesque.

RobdobsonIts a shame you seem to not have enjoyed your dives in Swanage? A crowd of us was there last weekend and on the last day it was planned to dive from the pier and one of our group managed to park on the pier when we arrived gone 11am while the rest of us parked just a short distance away in the public car park. So you dont necessary have to be there 45 minutes before gates opened.

SpaceHopperIf you get the chance do the Pevril (sp) Ledges drift dive have a go. In my limited salt water diving experience that has been the best of my diving so far.

Tom and I did Swanage yesterday.
We dived Kyarra and the pier, thoroughly enjoyed both. Kyarra looks like the sort of wreck you could dive many times and the bimble under the pier was superb (especially as I dont enjoy shore dives - I like boat cover) and would certainly be on my list to do again, the photo opps look immense (see Tom's pics on another thread). A great single cylinder dive, we got 40mins on 95bar (single 10), if Tom hadnt of run out of gas [1] we would have stayed a lot longer and I was kicking myself for not suggesting he get a fill after dive 1.

Have a great time.

Matt
[1] - he didnt actually run out of gas but got to the limit we had agreed beforehand, obviously.

Sorry Matt!

I love diving out of Swanage, I find it very laid back (though admittedly I do try only to do midweeks). Most of the diving does obviously centre on the Kyarra, and that's where the shuttles tend to go, but there are a range of other wrecks and scenics that can be done.

And we rolled up at lunchtime and got parking on the pier. On a bank holiday. Jammy gits eh!

Looks like it is going to rain all weekend. Anyone want to join me getting wet in the water rather than on land ?
