| This is NOT a commercial posting! FARNE ISLANDS - Northumberland Basically this is a post to let other divers know that from November to April (ie throughout the typical "off season") I plan to dive at the Farne Islands. What would be nice to do is to get a core of divers who live reasonably near the North East who are keen to get wet year round. We all know that for some strange reason the majority of UK divers pack their kit away in October and for the following 5 months either do their diving in the clubhouse or occassionally the local inland pond. Last year I was fortunate enough to dive every month off the Farnes and can honestly say that some of the best diving was in December. The weather can be more unpredicatable and for that reason I'd not recommend people to travel too far from the south or far north. (to avoid disappointment) The water doesn't get cold 'till end Jan and even then anyone in a drysuit should be fine (if they eat properly and wear decent thermals under their suit). The main focus of the dives will be marinelife. The seals are there all year round and if there's enough interest we can do the odd drop on the Somali 1st dive low water slack when appropriate if people are keen. All dives would be with a hard boat out of Seahouses £30 for 2 dives per person. All money would be payable to the skipper. All divers would be responsible for their own dive planning / safety etc My only role is to try to get enough interest to make it feasible for a dive boat to go out at least twice a month. The skipper will go with fewer divers than in the summer but he will still need to cover his fuel and make it worth his while casting the moorings off! That's all. Interested divers / clubs please email me on bburville@hotmail.com and I will keep you updated of plans. Dives will also be posted on the forum. Don't let the weather put you off! I've seen dive marshalls / clubs talk themselves out of diving at Seahouses harbour when the wind is barely a force 3! If we can get a core of divers together from early on, then the skipper will become confident and reasured in your ability to cope and as the weather does get worse we will still be able to get in. | Like the attitude of those who obviously dive year round.... BUT...sad fact... From May to end of September the dive boats at Seahouses are booked up... Come October/November the divers vanish and it's hard to get enough interest to half fill a hard boat! So this is aimed at those club / group divers who book places on the hard boats from May to Sept... have a word with your club DO and see if there's any interest in extending the sea diving. | What is this dive season you speak of? I concur, I had some cracking dives at The Farnes, St Abbs and Eyemouth right through the last Winter and this Spring. I'll be up for it - email on it's way Helen xxx
