Wastwater 9th April?

As threatened a few times recently I'm wondering if anybody would be up to dive the pinnacles at Wastwater on Wednesday the 9th April.

For those that don't know the site, a shelf at 13 / 16M leads for 40 to 50M from the entry point; after which you come across a cliff face dropping another 30M to around 45M where you will find the world's deepest washing machine and the "gnomes they tried to ban"

The shelf is very silty, but no problem provided you're not a shit-kicker. Vis can be variable but is usually a decent 10Mish.

I'm not bothered whether you want to stick to the shelf or dash off to 45M. If there are enough of us we could have people doing either.

If you've not done it before it is a nice dive along the cliff wall. The cliff also presents opportunities for you to do a dive at any intermediate depth as you can have a constant visual reference.

Fancy it?

If you do get to wastwater, have a quick look at the base of the cliff (48M ) to see if my little gift is still there....you shouldn't miss it if its there

Wast Water is always a good wall dive at the pinnacles, but don't restrict yourself to the one location. There is the remains of a reputed WWII aircraft at the bottom end of the lake near the pump house, and a very large round boulder between the two sites reputed to be a meteorite at about 25m.

Oh... and if you got on very windy day, you can actually do a drift dive as the wind churns up a nice current at times.... well it did for us last weekend.

As for the invite pieeater, will have to take a rain check as I'll be in warmer climates, but thanks for the invite.

I don't suppose you've seen the reputed WWII aircraft have you?

I know that there's meant to be a Cessna or similar near the Youth Hostel. I was told it flew into the mountain and was pushed into the lake to tidy the mountain up.

The rumours of a Lancaster Bomber are widespread but I've never actually spoken to anyone who has seen it. Many know someone who say it's there but when it comes down to it nobody to my knowledge has seen it first hand.

If anyone has actually seen it I'd love to talk to them.

Supposedly, Andy Hayhurst the TDI instructor who used to be on YD had dived it a few times, but I never got any info from him. Don't know where he is now so you may not be able to get in touch.

I know where he is I call on him for a coffee on a regular basis he's one of my mates. I've spent many a happy hour with him in Wastwater and I even had a look for it with him but it's never to my knowledge been found.

An old guy once reckoned he knew where it crashed but I'm sure it's just a rumour.

If someone could say "yes I've dived it and I've seen it" I would love to speak to them.

The plane that's in Wastwater is probably a Grumman Avenger, which is recorded as crashing into the screes at the Youth Hostel end of the lake.

The engine is available to dive ( there's even some piccies on YD somewhere ).

Any other wreckage spotted I would imagine is from this.

I spotted some wreckage a couple of weeks ago on the other side opposite the pinnacles, but it didn't look like aircraft wreckage.

In short, no, but I know a man who has. But Andy (as mentioned) should be pretty clued up as to its exact location. As said there is very little it left, if Andy cant help LMK and I will see if the guy I know can give specifics on the location.
