Has anyone got the contact details of a O-Ring supplier? I mainly want them for my umbilical prototype, but I suppose a dealer could be handy when you look at the cost of maintenance kits!

Any help would be appreciated

Rick

I get all my O rings Viton, and nitrile from Bearing services ltd (BSL)
they have a depot in Oldham, cant remeber Tel No as its in my contact list at work. give them a ring with I.D and O.D or section you require and they will usually find one or a v close match.
Directory enquires should find them.
I like to see you sketches of the umbilical as I am making one at the moment , having trouble with the reed switch not being sensitive enough through the plastic and the bulb  (50W diachroic get v hot inside the case when not in water, I am having an aluminium lamp holder made to reduce heat build up

Are you using H.I.D bulbs and if so do you know of an English supplier of the drive circuits and bulbs?

I personally lean towards EPDM O-rings, which are available from McMaster-Carr - don't like Viton. I believe SAP do Nitrile ones fairly cheaply..

Ian,

I'm using a D-Cell maglite to house my 50w and have a booted toggle switch on my battery cannister. I intend going HID when I too can source cheap UK supplied bulbs.
There are however a few good circuits for reed switches to be found at hiddivelights discussion group. I have pretty much used this site for reference in the uk http://homepage.ntlworld.com/steve.cooper/ hope this helps.

P.S Where are you having your lighthead made, I would be very interested in seeing some diagrams or pics of that beasty

You might have to play around with a few different ones.

I got a selection from Maplin and found some had a better range than others.  I just used a reed switch, one relay and that was it.

Good point.  I did do some testing a wile ago to make sure mine is OK and it is.

I've just done a little more as I'm in the middle of packing all my dive gear up.  The magnet in my cannister light influences my compass up to about 20cms away.  As the cannister sits on my right hip and my compass is on my left wrist there is no problem.

My 'normal' battery torch influences the compass up to about 5cms.  If I hold the torch in my left hand then that could be more of a problem.
