Their testing and repair service should be absolutely shit hot... Given the quality of my first/only/definitely last typhoo(n) suit they probably get a lot of practice...

IMHO of course

Thumbs up Top Site

That link to the DUI info is really good.

I'll be saving that one for when my seals go.

With that in mind can anyone recommend companies that will pressure test and repair drysuits (not of their own brand) and if there is anyone, how much is it likely to cost ?

Even when i get my new suit i like the idea of having a spare, especially with some trips planned next year.

This is soo true. Even with all the formers etc, and a nice big space to work on, its a pain in the butt. Diveshops really don't make much money on these things, trust me.

I have helped do a few, and just picking off the old bits of seal is mind numbingly boring. Plus, you will have to buy a pot of the glue, plus accelerator, plus solvent etc. This means you will have LOADS left over, how often are you going to use it.

I contemplated doing my own, but once I had found out what a bitch they were to do I just passed it onto the shop.

Instead of shelling out on 2 part glue, Bostik heavy duty contact adhesive from your local FocusB&Qbase does the job perfectly well (fdor latex seals) and you don't end up with a pot of glue that ends up going off before you can use it again....

intersting that the DUI blurb doesn't mention borrowing a suitably sized traffic cone to help with fitting a new neck seal

Unhappy

Ken I can't believe you are going to attempt to patch up a piece of kit as important as your drysuit there is a leak around the zip, the neck seal needs replacing and you are doing it yourself, to be honest I think you should be ditching it.

I have just picked up my suit today after having a new neck seal done, it took them 3 days and cost me £40, why not take it to a specialist and get them to do it. I am sure you would feel more confident if you did.

Last week, collected my suit from Diamond in Bolton - £20 for new neck seal fitted, took about a week.

Bearing in mind how much one costs, it hardly seems worth risking a DIY job.

Ask if you want directions.....

Believe me, if I could afford a new suit or even a repair job I would, but I'm proper skint at the mo and I've already bought a neck seal. I got this suit freemans from a mate so for the sake of £10 I thought I'd try fixing it.

I'm only intending on getting it dive-worthy so I can take it for a test dive in 6m, as I suspect it's not going to be comfortable enough to dive in but want to make sure before I ditch it. The reason I think this is because I tried it on a few weeks back and I found it very tight around the shoulders. It also took a herculean effort from my gf to get the zip fully closed (which she did after laughing at me and saying I looked like "a gimp" ) so there's no way in hell I'd ever get into it whilst wearing an undersuit.

In the meantime I'll just keep saving my pennies for an Ocean Aerdura...

Can anyone help, i managed to snag my neopren dry and create two small rips, not all the way through, and just about the size of a 5p.

Not knowing much about repairing this sort of thing i was wondering from past experiance if you guys think i should take it to a prof to get fixed or try and sort the problem myself?

If its the latter can anyone recommend a product that i can use on the rip, there is still a flap of neopren so i guess i could just fill it but i thought i would ask peoples advice first

Cheers for any advice

Eddy
