| Imported post <font color='#F52887'>how does a gas-switching block work and where do you get them and how much? I read a thread a while ago containing a reference to mixing up hose routing on a switching-block but cant find it again.

| Imported post John, I have a two way gas switch that is made by Ocean Reef (Italy) and is available through Sea & Sea in the UK (last time I ordered some parts for my FFM). I will see if I can find a link to their web site or their phone number and add it later. [EDIT]The number/contact I have is Dave Millin 01803 663012. From memory Sea & Sea only deal with the trade but I am sure Dave will be able to point you in the right direction if want more info. The switch can be seen at Ocean Reef - towards the bottom of the page after the info on the FFM for which it was made. It works on a plunger system - push to open one source and push back again to return to the original source. There is a retaining clip that prevents the switch being moved accidentaly. The switch is very well made and I have had no mechanical problems with the switch in the last 3 years and it still moves as smooth as anything. I think it was about £140. Despite it being shown as attached to the FFM I have mine clipped to the bottom D ring on my wing. I would say you need to be certain that you require a gas switch for your diving. One problem (apart from the cock up I made with mine) is with hose routing. I would recommend that you also get the "snap on hoses" (also available for the Ocean Reef FFM) so that the feeds to the switch can be unplugged. I managed for 2½ years with two first stages and associated bits permanently connected to the switch - a nightmare to put on and also to store. When I first got my FFM I found a number of places that sold or would make a switch (by phoning dive shops that do tech kit - I think I started with Kent Custom Divers and then following their "we don't but XXX might) but, at that time, the Ocean Reef FFM was not CE approved. I believe the prices went up to £300 but it was possible to get a 3 way switch. I am intrigued about your kit config ...OK I'm just nosey. If you wouldn'tt mind relieving the itch. I also happen to know that AP Valves do a quick connect hose that appears to be designed for use under water (alternative gas supplies to the Inspiration RB) as was pointed out to me by my LDS proprieter who is a YBOD user. | Imported post Wotcher Bryan, yeah just spoken to Lee & he said you were on. Never got your PM though. Should be fun, water looks reasonably settled & the Waterford often gets away with good vis in poor conditions so I'm dead keen. Last dive I did was 12deg in Monterey though, I think I'm in for a shock. Couldn't borrow your FFM could I? Answers To 'Bastard' Rob |
