Got a couple of 12 litre cylinders in my garage that were filled about 5 months ago (before i swapped onto the twin 10s) and started wondering if i was going to use them whether i should empty them and get a fresh fill. My natural caution would normally lead me to do this as a matter of course but it got me thinking that i have never read anything anywhere about whether air can go off in some way stored at 230 bar pressure so maybe i am being unnecessarily cautious.

Has anyone read anything on this one way or the other?

Jules

Fret not Jules, they'll be fine; the molecular filters will remove all biological impurities which would be the only thing to be concerned about plus the dryness of the air would make it impossible for any bugs to grow as they need moisuture. I'd certainly use them without hesitation

There, that set your mind at rest ?

<font color='#F52887'>Urmmmmm well i can't see that it would be a problem unless for some reason you got a damp fill last time so some of the O2 has gone towards making little rusty bits inside, but again I don't think time should have any effect, but I'm sure someone who knows what they are talking about will come along in a minute and correct me.

In theory and AIUI, there should not be anything in there to &quot;go off&quot;. BUT, I would give them a sniff and see what you think. There is sometimes a slightly tangy taste to air that has been compressed for a while.

If in doubt drain them and get them filled.

Paul

The only possible dangers are either:

a) they were filled with bad air five months ago or

b) if water has gone inside the tanks then there is a chance that they have rusted inside and the rush has used up some of the oxygen.

You'll probably be alright but testing it with an O2 anayser wouldn't hurt :-)

good one Kate
about three billion years ago for the appearance of the first photosynthesizing marine algae and about two billion years ago there's the first evidence of O2 in the atmosphere

well if we're really going to get technical, we'd have to ask when did the %O2 get to 20.9, and therefore become 'air' as we currently define it........

Yes but we'll first have to establish acceptable parameters of +/- X% of oxygen, and of course we'll need at least 40 data points if we're going to correctly analyse the statistical significance of the variance, what do you think, parametric or non-parametric &nbsp;is &nbsp;p= &lt;0.05 acceptable or higher ?

See what you've started Jules ? someones gonna be demanding an apology any minute... &nbsp;
