| Imported post <font color='#000080'>I like to make sure it is all working properly. But unfortunatly due to the incredibly poor quality of the regs i have now (have done 60 odd dives, look like they have done 600, no abuse, just normal dives) they need servicing before they should be due. On the other hand i have an old reg that has done a thousand odd dives, is third hand at least and is fine, looks good etc.

| Imported post They don't like you doing it - this maybe because they want you to buy all of there stuff. Some of them won't fit either as the holes in the 1st stages are different sizes. |

| Imported post <font color='#000080'>I think the main one that is funny with fittings is apex with 3/4" as opposed to 5/16" (or whatever it is) fittings. Of course they are out to get our money, however as I said as far as I'm aware the only real problems are with posiedons and interstage pressures if the worst comes to the worst then the fittings on the end of the hose are replaceable for a few quid certainly less than an new 2nd stage (particularly if you already own one!), but as I said I may be talking bollocks (the fact I'm just in from the pub has nothing to do with it

| Imported post <font color='#000F22'>I would like to service my own regs, just not got around to finding out how and where to get the service kits from. On the subject of mix and match, my single tank set up has a Jetstream 1st & 2nd stage and a US Masters as an octopus, with no interstage pressure problems. On some of my older configurations I did require a step change in thread. A simple trip to plumbers sorted this out. gareth

| Imported post <font color='#000080'>Gareth, I've replied to your PM. As regards mixing and matching, you can do it with alomst any reg except Poseidons, and you also can't mix and match all the different poseidons necessarily. The Jetstreams work at a higher ISP than the Cyklons, Tritons, and I think the Xstream. If you want to put any other make of reg on an Apeks 1st stage other than the DS1, you'll probably need to either re-use the Apeks hose and replace the 2nd stage, or block the port in the Apeks 1st and use a different LP port for your reg. This can be limiting if you need to put 2 regs and 2 feeds on one 1st stage. Drysuit divers, for example. As for the jetstream US combination, the only thing like it is a guy I heard about who claimed the best combo was an old Delta 2nd on a jetstream 1st. No idea why. You're either trying to save money or you know enough about it to choose it that way. If you're trying to save cash, don't use the US as your buddies, use it as yours. That way, if it goes breasts skyward, your panicking buddy will get a reg that will probably perform much better. Unless you're on a hog rig. Porg, your Vypers should work with most major 2nd stages. Don't go buying jetstreams though. Why not just sell them on and buy a 1st and 2nd that are up to the job? Ebay should have a few quid for side-exhaust regs? |
