| Imported post I keep a strobe in a pocket on most open water dives. The main reason is surface location in the event I am ever seperated from the boat. The batteries are good for over 10 hours and at night they can be seen from several miles away from the air, further than even a powerful torch. I have used it underwater in very silty conditions, in which case I strap it to the back of my calf just below the knee. It is visible to a following buddy but can be easily removed if I need it on the surface. Using strobes underwater is a bit like fog lights. In poor conditions they can be an aid, but in clear conditions they are just a PITA. The final use is strapped to the top of a DSMB when surface conditions are marginal...and once when I was concerned about a skippers glass eye! Strobes are one of the cheaper and more reliable bits of kit. They are easily stowed and have many uses in open water diving. So I don't see a reason to not carry one. The VIP lights look nice but a little too expensive for me. Regards Matt |

| Imported post I jst baught another three stores. I intend on using them for wreck penitration as a back up to laying a line. I would use them to mark critical turns or entry points as I mooved deeper into the wreck. Andyp has thre as well so thats up to six marker points to get us the hell out should we lose the line. Al I need now is the CCR and Izzis training course and I will be confident to go for a little look see in some of the wrecks I chickened out on last year Mark Chase
