It may well be, but the nickel development institute recommend that 316L is only used with chlorides up 1500mg/l.
Sea water is about 10 times this.

The engineer in me was looking at making a high quality plate, without comprimising on materials. &nbsp;(but then the Quantity surveyor in me was arguing that I should use any old s****, providing it was cheap)

and therefore we get away with it cause we take our kit out and wash it off after imersion don't we?
