If you have several regs then stagger the service intervals by a few months if that's practical.

We do a mail order service at Forward Diving in Poole. Iv'e been servicing regs and testing cylinders for 20 years so I have a bit of knowledge and experience.

The most important thing is that I have the right tools and test equipment to do it correctly.

Please don't DIY it, it puts me out of a job!!!
lol..... what are you worrying about... surely those that screw up their DIY service attempts will end up paying more to you in the end for extensive repairs or possibly a new set of regs? Maybe your looking at this all wrong and should be actively encouraging it?

Cheers for the advice everyone

Ill keep Forward Diving in mind when I can't get the 1st stage open using my shiny new 9" angle grinder and 8lb club hammer, as specified in the recommended procedures posted by fatone

be very careful with the 9" grinder , and 8lb hammer, if your regs are less than 2 years old as you will need to use metric tools

Out of interest, I've picked up a DS4 off ebay, and some gorrilla's been hanging off the end of it. Anyone know how to get a HP balance plug out of the body without stripping the hex keyhole? I've tried all my usual ideas and resorting to warming the body at present to see if differential expansion will help.

get a reg holding tool or put it in a vice. Then put the allen key in make sure all is secure get a very long spanner loop over the end of the allen you can now produce more torque to remove, the longer the better just be careful. warming causes expansion in a metal surely that would make it harder.

Just an idea, if you do them yourself. and it goes back together fine, and you manage to set the interstage pressure correctly. and someone else uses it, and they die, for whatever reason, and the police take all your kit. and want service records, and you say "i did it" then your in prison. so you wont need your regs.

why would you be in prison? because you have given someone regulators to use that have not been legally serviced by a trained and qualified service technician, so you are liable, are you going to give someone a disclaimer? "i serviced this reg without training, please sign to say if you die its not my fault and you were totally aware of this"
All insurance is invalid, the guarantee from apeks become invalid. Regulators are life support equipment, in the uk we have the HSE. DIY regulators, Garage Gas mixing and home made re breathers Kill.

When i paid for one set to be done in a shop i got no proff of the service apart from a huge bill........ that was 1 1/2 years ago, the otherday i opened up the 1st stage they "serviced" and it had water in it that had been there from the orignal serivce!!!! w$nkers.... Luckly this 1st has only been used a handfull of times in the pool. All my other regs i have serviced and all have been fine and thats upto 100% O2 use.
