For starters, you contradicted yourself by the time you got from the title "O2 cleaning", to the 1st line "can anyone tell me how to clean my own cylinders". Now we have all assumed that you wanted to know how to O2 clean them. If you title had been "How do I get the taste of White Spirit out of my cylinders" then you might have got a better answer, after people picked themselves up off the floor laughing. I will point out you got arsey when people gave you some good advice ie. don't do it unless you know what you are doing, and from your answer above you clearly don't. Seriously, if you want to learn how to do it properly, go do a course or something, don't bitch about it or get personal when people tell you the truth. I think all the white spirit fumes in your cylinder must be having some sort of long term effect, I'll stick to my nice smelling O2 cleaning fluid. I'll give you a hint as to what you should be looking for, this is from the manufacturer Quote:

| I don't really want to get involved in this bun fight .... but is it really worth the hassle & the cost involved to actually clean cylinders yourself? Just from an outside view point, when you have to start buying £25 of cleaning fluid isn't it all getting in the realms of easier & cheaper to take it to you LDS? Neil, just to be clear I won't be trying to clean my own cyls, as a) I can't be arsed & b) I still can't be arsed. Will drop down my 7L this week for servicing |

Mostly my thoughts too. Aside from the fluid you also need a clean environment.....your garage isn't it! and you need something to dry the cylinders with. Unless you have quite a few cylinders then it's simply not worth the time! I do my own valves every couple of months but they still get an annual O2 service as well. |

| o2 clean it Please listen to the advice given, unless you really are very competent and know what your doing phone around and get them proffessionaly cleaned. Or go on a course where someone will show you the exact procedure of what tools and chemicals to use. it only takes one bad incident at a fill station to spoil it for everyone, making the LDS and dive centres even more awkward about filling and im sure you dont want to do that..! I know its a pain and a lot of the O2 cleaning malarky is stinking of pooh, but if you make sure its done to a proffessional standard then you will be looking after your own safety first and foremost and then nobody can critisize..! |
