How long would you allow your kit to fester in the car after a trip?

    Hey,

Am off diving the next two weekends but due to my current domestic arrangements washing and drying my kit after a trip is a complete pain. Just wondering how long people think it is acceptable to leave kit festering in the car for between uses?! Is 5 days acceptable?

Couple of days max. Then it needs to fester in the garage instead so the car doesn't smell of decomposing plankton.

Mine comes off the boat and sits in the compessor room til the next dive...normally only a day or two away... not this year though...curse that wind...

Five days though... asking for unusual growths..sticky regs and one hell of a smelly car...

As long as it doesn't dry out then it should be OK - rots the arse out of your car and makes it stink though.

My concern would be the insurance though - if the stuff gets nicked from your car and its been there for a week will your dive kit insurance cover it or will your car insurance? Leave it an unreasonable time and if it does get nicked and you do try to claim on your insurance it might be one of the ways they'll use to avoid paying out.

Leave it festering in the car as long as you like, thers no need to wash and dry it. whats the worse that can happen? it all stops working properly at depth and you die. Surely you have a friend with a garage where you can wash and store your kit.

leaving it in a car is about the worse place to leave it as it will get very hot if we ever have a summer. Suits are better rolled up and kept damp if you are unable to rinse and store properly as it is the dry salt crystals that do a lot of damage. You should at least wash an dry your regs before you store them in the car. Good luck in sorting some thing out.
