This sounds difficult but if you grasp your wrists you can manage it.

I still think an incidents forum would be useful but there's no word from Mount Olympus and this thread is dead.

With the best will in the world Ray, I am not convinced that we are ever spectacularly good at self analysis, especially regarding identifying our own failings. Whether one should see this as an individual lacking the skill or a general trait of human nature I am not sure.

I KNOW that it is not morbid curiosity that motivates me to read about incidents, but rather I am quite convinced that mistakes that others make can teach us a great deal in many 'risk' pursuits.

I do try not to be be too big for my boots, or to run before I can walk. Lord knows, I get upset enough with myself should I slip below the 18m that my basic qualification allows. I sincerely believe that as we can learn from the experiences of others in a field as straightforward as choosing a reputable dive school, we can and indeed should learn from the mistakes of others by the open discussion of incidents.

At the start of this thread, one of the gods from Mount Olympus said he was going on holiday, and he would consider the matter on his return.
