Calling All Skippers

Hi everyone,

I have just come off the phone after having an interesting conversation with a couple of my dive buddies,

There is a little rumour going around that skippers will only be able to buy and use commercial diesel (red?) if the boat is being used for industrial use....i.e For a trade that actually produces something, .....Apparently, if a boat is used for recreational diving purposes it doesnt actually 'produce' anything and will not be able to use this fuel anymore, but will have to pay the full duty on the fuel......

If this is true, it will without doubt, put a massive amount of money on any future boat charters as obviously these additional costs will passed down to us divers...

Does anyone have any info on this, or is it just chinese whispers that have got a little out of hand?

Looking forward to your responses

Steve

Hi Steve ,

There are loads of rumours flying around at the minute....

From what i have heard is that the GOVT are trying to work out the difference in a charter vessel that takes out divers were the skipper is trying to make a living ,, and some dirty great big sunseeker as a gin palace, that is also coded for coperate charters, ie: Company tax loss, why the boss has shagging palace How can you diff bewteen the 2 ?

I've just worked out this from my diesel bill. Each time i fill up , i take on 1/2 a ton ( 500 lts ) .

Jan 2005 i was paying .33 a litre = £ 165 to fill up
Aug 2005 I was paying .46 a litre = £ 230 to fill up

And on average fill up 4 times a month ....... Now thats an extra £ 65 a top up on every fill since Jan ................. soon eats away at ya profits ...

Careful Andy - Trojan Diving is part of a small marine Charter Company. In addition to the Dive Charter, we also run a 'dirty great big sunseeker that is coded for corporate charters'. Does the above statement suggest that we are less entitled to make a living out of the sunseeker ??
