Help! Which came first?

OK, which comes first - the scrubber or the bag. I've just decided to make the P1SS a loop, but now I'm having second thoughts about whether I want to do things the way round I'd decided on. If you see what I mean.

Here are the options - Out of my lovely little mouth, into the scrubber, into the counterlung, back into my lovely mouth.

OR

Out of my mouth, into the bag, into the scrubber, into my mouth again.

Now, I can see that breathing from the scrubber last makes it less likely to get the scrubber wet, as it's got to get from the mouthpiece (probably where most of the water is coming from, but the bag could be leaking very slightly) but also makes me more likely to get cocktailed, doesn't it?

If I have it the other way round I'm les likely to actually get the stuff in my pretty mouth, but more likely that it gets wet no?

Maybe I shouldn't really be worrying too much. I know that there are differences with every unit, but what's the best course of on this one?

Just to make life easier, I'm going to try and make it a poll, but justification would be nice.

Thanks in advance. Idon't know what I'd do without you guys.

Digs.

I voted mouth, bag, scrubber.

If you get water through the DSV then it hits the bag first and hopefully will stay there. I tipped about a litre out of mine on Saturday but the scrubber was still fine and the RB still running. Depends on where the inlets/outlets are though.

Thinking about it I reckon you should blow into the bag and suck through the scrubber as water is less likely to get into the scrubber, isn't it, as it has further to go from your downstream mouthpiece valve. Mind you, if you are sucking from the scrubber, you will get a mouthful of gak straight off whereas you might get a bit longer if the gak has to get through the bag first.

Oh- and I was right about the AP200 inflator having one-way valves. With a bit of fiddling to reduce the breathing effort and a way of closing it off, it would make a perfect double hose rebreather mouthpiece for your loop.

Hoses come out from the inflator hose hole (the scrubber is on this side) and the dump valve hole. I know, the unit needs an OPV somewhere, but that's the least of my worries at the moment. I want a sealed unit before I go cutting holes in it!!!

Hopefully the bag should act as a water trap, but there is a leak on the scrubber if it's not packed correctly, will this affect the poll?

Woz, I played with one today, and they're fine, but the end is a pain to get something round for the other side. Oh, and you can't close the mouthpiece. I've sorted it with anpother generous donation to the Digger rebreather project, but now I need to get some stuff machined...

I think it depends on the breathing resistance. If it is quite high, it would be easier to blow the scrubber and suck the bag(!). Surely water-traps would help stop CCocktail? Fill the foot of some tights with that gel stuff they use in plant pots which absorbs water and put it inline - should suck up any leakage. I think the nutter with the hot water bottle RB does that.

I'm planning to put the scrubber inside the CL. That way leaks will be reduced and the scrubber will be marginally warmer. Belt and braces and all that...

Digger, have you thought of using an old double-hose reg off eBay? Mouthpiece and one-way valves all in one. I did have two...
