| erm long time since i did chemistry so apologies if wrong but calcium carbonate CaCO3 + H20 gives Ca(OH)2 + CO2 which would relaese hydrogen gas also feck my teacher was right I will need this later on in life

| to make calcium hydroxide starting from calcium carbonate: heat up your CaCO3 (limestone) very hot eg in a limekiln.you then get calcium oxide (quicklime). add water (very carefully) and you get calcium hydroxide and lots of heat. CaO is caustic. you don't get hydrogen. It's not practical as a kitchen experiment as you won't get it hot enough and lime (CaO) is relatively cheap as it's put on the land and used for traditional mortar for historic buildings |
