| Want to e-mail it to me??? The accountant in me would love the challenge!!! I'm sure theres a logic to it you just have to find it. Something in my head tells me that you will need an odd number of teams. Don't know why but thats my first impression! PM me if you want a hand Kath |

| Andy/Kath, I don't know the number of teams yet. If I can stay awake long enough tonight, I might have a go at trying to figure some rules to follow myself. I think the only way to work out the rules is to start from 2 sides and then increase the numbers by one every time to see what effect this has on the pattern of the fixtures. Unfortunately, things are complicated by some clubs having 3 or 4 sides BUT only two tables. Obviously these clubs take priority in the "must be home/away this week" considerations. I should have the final team registrations within 2 weeks. If you are still interested OR the definitive answer has not already been given I will PM you the information. Thanks for the replies. Rgds Bryan

| Well here you go: http://www.keisu.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/Res.../METR03-29.pdf It describes a algorithm to minimise the number of breaks needed to make it work, in polynomial time. |

I did ask didn't I! After a quick glance I think it would take me longer to read and understand the math that it would to strike the right answer by chance. I will print this out and see if I can understand it this evening. Thanks v/much for advising the link. Rgds Bryan

| OoooooK! I printed it out and have learnt several things:- 1. My maths is not what it used to be. 2. My maths was never what it used to be. 3. Some teams have to put up with some consecutive weeks at home/away. 4. Next time some Smart Alec says he can do better, I shall give him the report and tell him to go ahead and prove it!
