| Theakston's Old Peculiar does it for me. When I get north of the border to the big country I go for McClays 80/- or Belhaven.

| Abbott Ale and Tangle Foot are cracking beers. But the best ever has got to be BlueBird XB served at the pub that brews it in Coniston. ![]()

| Steve mate, Thee's many would agree witgh up here! There are generation of folks in Oldham who never forgave Boddy's for buying Oldham Breweries (OB's) in the 80s! Never touch bitter myself - although grew up on Boddy's, John Willie Lees, OB's et al. And yer know: not one of 'em does a decent single malt!

| OB's-too young for that-top stuff, says Dad. Proper Guiness, bought & drunk in Ireland- top stuff. Theakston's OP- heavy duty-rots your brain-ok if you're < 18 Boddies-pulled proper- hits the spot- about 7" above the scrotum- two gorgeous kids to prove it- wouldn't go near the wife without it (Posted after 6 pints of same, and a Bell in 18m) (I just drove the boat, but it's a team effort!) Top Post! If I say so myself, ![]() |

| Beer I am sitting here nursing my tin of Ruddles County........ Failing this will drink Abbot, or Green King IPA down at my local. Boddingtons beer used to be great for supping-I consumed many pints as a student, that and Stones bitter. But seems rather a pale imitation when I have tried it in recent years. I will not be disappointed by the closure. |

| Can I admit A friend of mine was a brewer at Strangeways. He moved there when they closed Greenhalls down in Warrington...probably all his fault! I used to have a territory that covered Greenhalls, G&J, Tetleys and Burtonwood...some weeks were just a blur. Oh, the good old days!

What really makes me laugh at the moment is the Fosters adverts where they say its "specially brewed to taste better cold". In other words it tastes like cat pee and the only way to make it taste decent is to serve it so cold that your taste buds get numbed. Add to that the "head tap" so they can get more pints per keg and its easy to see why ale is loosing out to lazy, greedy publicans. Ok, rant over

| As I understand it Fosters is no longer available in Australia, because noone drank it! It was completely different to the UK offering in any case. Fosters here is much like Carling or one of the weaker european lagers, Personally I prefer the ruthless efficiency of vodka! Andrew
