Polperro is OK, but a bit of a bugger to get from to other parts of Cornwall, although in off season perhaps not so bad. Don't know what it is like off season. At least no (other) tourists! Either back north to main road or west across the ferry at Boddinick to Fowey if you want to get to St Austell southwestwards.

Around St Austell;
-Eden Project
-Lost Gardens of Helligan (near Pentewan)
-Old Harbour and Wreck Museum in Charlestown

Falmouth has the new Maritime Museum.

Tate Gallery in St Ives.

Most of the above is indoors - I would not expect too much of the weather!

Plymouth is about an hour east for Marine Aquarium and pay homage to the Dive God Doug

Maybe meet one evening?

Adrian
HOW COULD I FORGET FALMOUTH?

As I live there I should be rooting for it, but to be honest, you will be much better off with the places already mentioned.

Sure, there is loads to do down here, but to get back to civilisation you have to endure the A30 at Gossmoor.

My advice - stay away from it unless you like crazy traffic jams as the dual carriageway goes into a crazy single lane with a low bridge - as this is the main route in and out of Cornwall, you always get a lorry that gets stuck. Result? Well lets just say last time I went to Bodmin from Truro for work (25 miles) it took me about 2.5hrs! (As it was a work trip I stayed in the traffic, otherwise would have taken a shortcut )

For beaches, come down West, for attractions, the Looe, St Austell area is better.

Just on the outskirts of Looe there is a Monkey Sanctuary which is nice too.

Just a note, last week we had some crazy flooding down here with Spring tides and Gales, parts of Looe were evacuated.

When you phone somewhere to book your accom, by sure that they are still open as the floods were really bad.

You should be ok though, waters have subsided by now, but bear this in mind.

Hope you enjoy it!

Much appreciated Epic.

We're presently looking into all the options given and then we shall see. One thing that we defnititly have to include that we haven't earlier is that a wee baby shouldn't stay in a car-seat for hours and hours... and that limits the distance we're actually able to drive...

Huh... might actually end up in the parking lot at Stansted Airport.

Regards,

Kyrre

If you are looking for self-catering cottages etc, look at www.cornishcottageholidays.co.uk .We have used them a couple of times, they are a cornish based firm, and they really know there stuff. I should add that I have no connection to them other than a satified customer.

Last time we were there we stayed in a farmhouse near mannaccan (sp?) on the lizard peninsular. brilliant accomodation and also near to a dive centre (I'm not 100% sure, but I think it is porthkerris divers). loads of local attraction such as the goonhilly downs earth station, telegraph museum, tin mining museums, st michael's mount, nice beaches etc. The eden project is about 40km journey, but well worth it.

You can probably tell I love the area, even though i come from London. Whenever we go, we have the 'would you move here' discussion, and Cornwall is the only place in the UK that the missus and I both would love to move to (if I could get a job, etc etc)

Hope that helps

cheers

I'm a pharmacist - most of the shops and hospitals that way have full staffing - no surprises there!!!

At the moment I work in the Civil Service (D.O.H.), and the're quite keen on home working...... If I could get that kind of deal (visit the office once a week) then maybe it would be a possibility......

At one point they were talking about moving us to Exeter with some other government departments, but in the end, only the met. office got lucky. Gits.

Cheers

I can almost see the office from my window. It's a nice building, but AAUI, it is for 20 years then they move again. Beats Bracknell though

They put the house prices up nicely and school place arguments got 'interesting'

Fancy teaching at the new med school?

Adrian

Done a bit of teaching - undergraduate pharm students mostly. Hated it! amazingly for people who are there by choice, they were ungrateful, lazy and mostly uninterested. But then the skills I was teaching were not really needed for shop pharmacists, and they mostly 'wanted to work in boots'. Gits

I am currently working on the home thing - but preference is given to those with young kids etc. So one solution is clear. But I guess the missus may well notice the glint in my eye!!!!

BTW Kyrre, sorry for the thread hijack. But I guess if people like me like the area enough to try and move there, it must be worth visiting!!!!

Cheers
