One day Prince Charles will be King of England, quite a lofty position, but exactly how much "necessary work, effort or natural ability" has it required of him to attain this position? He can do exactly that which he is complaining about, he can sit back, do nothing and he will still achieve this great position.
Have to say that I have a bit of a problem with this - are you trying to imply that unless someone directly experiences something then they can't have a valid opinion on it? Example - I am white. Do I feel that discrimination against ethnic minorities is abhorrent in all forms? Yes I do. Is my opinion fundamentally flawed because I am a white living in a white dominated society? No, I don't think it is.

As an aside, I actually think that the Prince of Wales has a job which involves a lot of effort and sacrifice (privacy anyone?). I wouldn't fancy it.

(Oh, and Bren, it's waY )

I'm expecting a lot of red for this, but here goes anyway.

Prince Charles is a figurehead, not a head of state. We should be proud of our Royal Family, and understand that they are an important part of our history. The way they are treated says a huge amount about how easily manipulated by the media, and those of you who genuinly believe that they are money grabbing layabouts should have a long hard look at where that idea came from.

HRH's point is an extremely good one. I run my own business at the age of 24, and I've worked my ass off for the last 2 years and will continue to do so, because that's what I believe it takes to succeed. The problem is the people who believe the world owes them a living, and that the current belief is that being famous is the easy way to get rich quick. The fact that famous people generally have to work pretty hard as well doesn't come into it!

IMHO of course....!

I have to agree. At least there's something that shows he has his head screwed on just right. Don't dismiss the message because we may not like its source.

Good point.

I rather like the bloke actually. Tough as old boots and calls a spade a spade. Bollocks to anyone who says otherwise.

Hum. The royal family are a prime example of what can go wrong with genetic engineering. Too much in-breeding over a period of centuries.

Let's face it, none of them are reknowned for their outstanding intelligence. Which is ok, it's not a crime to be stupid. But it should be a crime to belittle people because of one's prejudices.

Laters,
Janos

Wink my to'pennorth

He is and always will, be caught between a rock and a hard place, if he says nothing he is aloof and does not care if he says something what does he know about the real world.

The majority of blame lies not with the education system but with the media who infest tv with people plucked from obscurity and thrust into the limelight with little or no talent.

That aside I think that the Royal family have become an irrelevance and at times an embarassment to the many who have fought and died in their name, but they do bring in the tourist's revenue though, and what would you replace them with, President Blair anyone

On another matter does anyone else think it strange that the English national anthem asks God to save the Monarch of the other home nations

Safe diving,
Steve.

But that's my point. He does have direct experience of the situation. He has a guaranteed job which will put him at the very top. Direct experience of the very thing he is complaining about. He is entitled to his view, I accept that and would never argue that anyone should be denied their own opinions. However, they need to be able to explain and fully support their views if they are to persuade me that their views are valid. His situation weakens his argument, in my opinion.

In your example you are right. Your opinion would be completely valid. But you are not then using you're views to try to prevent the advancement of others which appears, to me, to be what Prince Charles is doing. From what I have seen on the subject, the memo was in response to someone's request for further training, not someone demanding something for nothing, but someone asking for training to better themselves and further their career.

I think I agree with Janos in that his views are acceptable as long as they are not used to belittle others.
