Nope, Cadbury is from Birmingham - had a big factory in the Bournville area and even built model communities for his workers...

http://www.cadbury.co.uk/EN/CTB2003/...story_cadbury/

Anyhow, forget all that dunking wispas and stuff - the top trick is to get a Twix, bite each end off one finger, insert one end into (not too hot) drink and then use as a straw.... it really does work!

Had?

HAD??

My dear boy, they still have a huge factory in Bournville, and own most of the land there.

The houses are administered through the Bournville Village Trust (the edge of which is less than 1/2 mile from my front door)

You can visit the factory via the "Cadbury World" attraction, although it is not the best value for money, but it is worth doing once just to say you've been in a chocolate factory - but they wouldn't give me a refund, even though I stated from the beginning I was only going to get myself an Oompa Loompa and I couldn't find any

Being a Brummie (from Harborne) I can quote an interesting fact;

There are no pubs in Bournville, due to the reason that it was a Quaker family that started Cadburys.

(And as far as I know there still isn't)

They have factories all over the world, generally in places of British influence. They were in Canada and Malaysia too. In fact Malaysia still sold the best ever chocolate, Cadbury's Black Forest bars. They don't do them here anymore. So if anyone happens to be passing a Malay supermarket and sees a box... you know where to find me.

A friend of mine went to one of the unis down there (don't remember which) and it is built on Quaker land. It was in the conditions that they could not run a business selling alcohol so the students union had to sell beer at cost price so as not to make a profit.

When i used to work for Alnwick Gardens i used to be in the Kitchens. We had proper hot chocolate. You made up a paste from powder (which smelled divine) and put it into the machine which then blasted hot milk in with the paste.

No, still no pubs

The Country Girl in Bournbrook (next to the back gates of the hospital) is OK for a chain pub (Ember Inns) and is the only pub within staggering range that is Good Beer Guide listed.

I used to like the Gun Barrels or the Varsity on the Bristol Road.
