| You probably have this link already but just in case: http://www.netgoth.org.uk/pubs/index.php?id=642 They have a useful list of pubs, clubs and shops plus like minded souls who can probably meet up with or at least help you more. Hope you find something. Down here in London, the alternative places seem to keep closing down. My local has always had a rock night on Friday's but I turned up there a couple of weeks ago to find it was 'Hip Hop' night. Aaaaagh! The Electric Ballroom in Camden has started a new alternative night on Fridays though so it's not all doom and gloom. Well, unless you're a goth

| Thanks for that I look at netgoth every now and again myself and think 'Yeah, I *will* go to that', it's just turning up by myself that deters me! I'm looking forward to being much closer to London, as Mr Ruby's parents live there, so I know all the local haunts and naturally, the best shops! I know what you mean about the nights closing in clubs/pubs too, it's awful! We used to go in the Dev in Camden all the time but I heard on the grapevine that it's going to close soon and be turned into a winebar, pah! I'm just fearing the change, as I've lived here all my life, I'm sure I'll settle in well but what about my accent? I'll get picked on by little kids because I have elongated vowels! *panics*

| Eeh, when I were a lad! All Saturday night at the Slimelight then into Macdonalds at 6am for breakfast and a spliff. Up the canal to Camden to the Devvy for the rest of the day. It's going to be a bit more of a trek for you to get to Whitby for the gothfest though eh? The Egg Club in Islington runs an alternative night once a month http://www.egglondon.net I've also heard good things about the new Ballroom nights on a Friday. So it's not all bad news. Wouldn't worry about the kids, put downs are so easy for the socially unsophisticated. Of course the real question here is 'what are we doing in on a Saturday night?' In my case it is a serious hangover

| Lol, I would have ventured into Slimelight once upon a time but now I hear it's been overtaken by nasty, dirty cybergoths, ugh! The Ballroom still holds some hope though, I went to a metal night there not so long ago and it wasn't all this nu-metal malarky, did manage to get a good headbang (not sure what 'da kidz' call it these days!) in to Carcass/Bolt Thrower, etc! Unfortunately, Camden isn't what it used to be, they're rebuilding most of the market and putting trendy bars/chain shops in the place of alternative outlets. The only shops I'll visit there are Resurrection Records and Breathless now As for Whitby, I'll get there come hell or high water. I'm secretary of the Whitby Dracula Society I'll have you know, I have special powers

| Nostalgia ain't what it used to be. Still I hear that "B-Movie" in London isn't bad. And I think that they're even playing goff again at Slimes, although I can't verify this as I haven't been out to a proper goth gig myself in several years as I don't know many goths any more. Janos PS - I have been out tonight but now I'm back.

| PPS - I think Cambridge has a bit of a scene - that's not too far.

| Thanks Janos! At least I know I'll probably be able to go out all night and not have to pay for a B&B before returning on the first train of the morning! P.S I'm a goth, you're aware of me, that's almost like knowing me P.P.S. I've also been out, it was mothers 60th, it would have been rude not to have a bottle of wine (each)

Haven't been to B-movie for a while but enjoyed it last time. My most local (now) is 'The Pit' in Richmond every Saturday night. Late license. Good selection of metal with an older crowd. Handy for me. I think my Slimelight membership expired in 1999 - about the time they got a proper bar. Before that we used to take a 1.5 litre coke bottle of Jack and coke or similar to see us through the night. The Ballroom used to be my favourite. Back in the days it was goth downstairs and metal upstairs. For metal read glam big hair, cowboy boots and Motley Crue (back in fashion it seems). After that it was dancy goth electronica downstairs and nu-metal up. They also started letting trendys in suits in as well - what's with the dress code??? Haven't been back since but it's looking more promising now. Not been to Whitby for a couple of years but memories of the Elsinore and cheesy goth bands might drag me back yet. Anyone remember this? http://www.studiohunty.com/tamagothi/

| Back now I've found a link for b-movie. Here it is Hum. I haven't been to Slimes for a while. Probably around the same time as you. When I first started going it was Goth on the top floor and industrial on the middle floor. We used to take our own booze etc. too. Cheaper that way. Then they opened up the bottom floor and shut the top floor as I got cross as I never knew whether there was going to be a goth floor or not. I do remember one fab night when they filled it so full of dry ice that there viz was worse then Wraysbury following a trainee (see how I get the diving reference in there But although a member, I didn't used to go to Slimes every week as I wasn't living in London then. I used to DJ up in Oxford for a few years (varying crowds from 3 people (yes 3) to 150 odd. Which was very good) and before that I used to go to Spiders in Hull. Which was fantastic. Where else can you get a cocktail with a jelly worm in it? Janos EDIT: Yup I do remember the Tamagothis. I can even date when I got mine. Probably around August 1998?
