| Good luck, my PhD viva was a 4 hour nightmare but I don't think an MSc one will involve as much grilling or an hour on my weakest subject area! Just sound enthusiastic! Paul

| Best of luck, sure you won't need it though. I remember mine, I did a part time MSc many years ago, a collaboration between my employers and the university (Brunel). When it came to the final dissertation, we (the company) chose a subject and the university said they would support it, but later could not find anyone with sufficient knowledge of the subject. Other than bit in house knowledge and one outside agency, I was on my own. Then came the viva and the Uni produced a trump card in the shape of the UK expert on the subject. Jeez I can feel my gonads shrinking now at the thought of it. but I got through it and came out smiling The point to this is that if you have truly mastered your subject you should have no worries. They are not out to fail you but to see if you understand the basis and theories of your work or if you have simply regurgitated something without understanding it. I'm sure it will be the former. | OK. I'll admit my stupidity! I assume this Viva has nothing to do with Vauxhall? Snigger all you want, I started work after A Levels! Mind you, if I could go back in time I think I would like to have gone to Uni .......... still, I really enjoyed my few years roofing out in the Kent countryside ........ well, in the summer ..... Yes, anyway, whats a Viva when it's at home! I will be checking your answers against what the "internet" has to say!

A Vauxhall Viva was a crappy car produced in the 60's and 70's. Some had go faster bits added and went faster than those that didn't, which wasn't very fast An University Viva is an oral examination usually conducted by a board of academics as the final stage of a higher degree, PHd, MSc etc It's a nerve-racking experience as the questions are not set and if you show any signs of weakness they can really start probing. Come to think of it, a cork my be a vital requirement for a viva

| aye went good - my thesis is on the effects of electromagnetic fields on sharks from offshore structure/corrosion/cathodic protection systems. I knew my stuff but there was 7 people in there in total! There was the head of our dept, my thesis tutor (the home build rebreather guy), some top dog from southampton oceanographic institute that builds AUV`s for a living, the top corrosion guy in cranfield uni and some mad greek bloke that deals with risk and reliability stuff. All in all went rether well - had some right tosspots of some questions but answered them all. Shall have to see how it goes later on next year when i get my mark Keith
