| Listening to radio 1 newsbeat on the way home, they had a debate going on about people feeling pressured into wearing poppies. The final text response they read out was something like; "All those brave men and women died so we have the freedoms to argue about feeling pressured into wearing poppies" Nuff said me thinks............................................ ............ |

| Not sure what I think of this, it was actually a bit shocking in a way, but it is interesting reading anyway...read through the comments/discussion below. It is a perspective on "one man's hero is another's...??" Protest Against HMS Ocean - Indymedia Ireland Found it whilst searching for info on white poppies that I heard being debated on the radio yesterday.

| Wars are started by men too old to go and fight and fought by men to young to go and die. Yes it'll be no different for me this year as every year i'll remember the men uniformed and non uniformed that played their part. I'd still love to see the merchent men recognised for the part they played. Aint no poppies so englands rose ll have to do.

| Im just sorting out my uniform for parade tomorrow...like Nick said, I wish my GGrandad was still alive to tell me all his stories. We have the Black Watch coming to the unit on Tuesday to give us a lecture on the theory of Leadership. Should be a good lecture with some good war stories. Ax |

| I am all for remembering the armed forces, but i feel a little disapionted that the Merchant navy get so little recognation. The British Merchant Navy lost meny men and woman, and if the sea lanes had not been filled with men and woman willing to brave the terror of the battle of the Atlantic aboard lightly armed merchant ships, we would have never won the war, and the UK would have been starved to its knees.
