| Central Heating Engineer in the House.... This week our central heating/hot water isn't playing as it should do The timer we have has settings for hot water and seperate settings for central heating. If the central heating is on, the hot water is heated, but at this time of year we just put the HW on for a couple of hours a day. However, recently if we turn the HW on, the heating comes on too, but the CH light does not appear on the timer mechanism. The heating comes on as does the HW, however, we don't need heating at the moment. Before I call out a heating engineer to look at the bits (which are less than 3 yrs old), can anyone give me clue as to where the fault may lie. The little box, the boiler, the routing of hot water.... Regards

| l agree with Moz, it sounds like the diverter valve. Most of them you can replace the head and not the whole valve, which means you don't have to drain the system. Ring my moby (in profile) for how to test it.

| Most diverter valves you can just replace the motor- £8.00 from Screwfix If it's on a Combi boiler they usually fit "specials" so a replacement will be nearer £50- 80.00 ATB, Terry |

| Thanks Howard for the info...green incoming. Just had a play with the valve while the boiler was on and while I could move it up 'against' the pressure and engage the detente (under 'auto'), when it was moved to manual, it would not move the arm all the way down. Looks like I will take the silver box cover off and try to move the valve manually, otherwise I while be calling the friendly plumber. Regards
