I'm no longer certain of whether I used to be thick or was v/clever have just forgotten forgotten lots of things ................... erm .................... oh yes, counties. Occasionally I need to find out which county a town is in and it can be a real PITP to do so:-

Be Properly Addressed: a Traditional County Postal Directory - section 3

Pls note PITP is MY Britsh equivalent of PITA!

I do a lot of demographic mapping etc in my work, and we rarely use counties anymore. As long as there is a postcode.

Won't be long until counties are not used at all in addresses.

According to that website my flat in London is in the county of Middlesex. Some thing I have learned today.

I don't think they're very important anymore. The Royal Mail don't put it on official addresses anymore - the address finder on their website gives my address as:

Number + Street
Village
TOWN
Postcode

I actually looked it up a while ago, and i'm not even sure what the counties of England are. I found a few references, and they all had slight variations, in some areas quite significantly so.

Its wrong though, Bexhill is in East Sussex - Everyone knows that except this website

Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, it matters if you are a sales rep and you are allocated customers by county.

Anyway, just because it isn't popular and the Royal Mail use Post Codes on their machines etc etc ...........
