Engagement rings

OK, don't anyone get the wrong idea here, but I have been looking at engagement rings recently and am wondering what the cost should be....

I remember in the olden days that it was considered right to spend a months wages on one. Now I'm a Yorkshireman and that sounds like a lot to me....

So go on let's see what you lot think.

Also am I just wrong to even be considering cost? It sounds a bit tight, but how can you spend a months wage on something and not consider the cost?

Sitting here waiting to be called names by all of the ladies....

Andy

Thumbs up

When I bought Josie's engagement Ring I didn't have a salary as I was a Student (living it up, being a kept man, drinking and skipping lectures). I think the usual is one month salary. Just lie to your self about how much you earn. When you go out set yourself a budget and don't be tempted to break it. When we looked, the shop assistants kept bringing more and more expenive rings, jumping up in £200 increments!! I just kept saying, "I've got XXX to spennd, take those back!

(When I say we chose the ring, She did. I thought if she has to wear it, she should have some imput)

Mention that you think large diamonds are a vulgar display of wealth and save money for the honeymoon.
It worked for me.

No engagement ring for Mrs. NickB

But, as we met & married within the same month, there was barely enough time to get the wedding ring.

Also, does anyone know wehat happens if (a) the girl says no; or (b) the ring doesn't fit?

Are shops happy to take back unwanted rings and offer a refund and/or change the size of the ring?

Just interested....

Ok, this is going to sound awful, but....

just for a joke as we walked past a pawn shop, I said lets look in here...
and just for a laugh she did.... and fell in love with a white gold diamond jobbie at less than 100 notes!

Hey Luck favours the brave!

Cheers, Paul
