Long nail on little finger -why?
I had a discussion with my mrs yesterday and it ended like this: post it on YD and find out! Ok here is the question:

In various countries many people (mostly men I think) grow long their finger nail on the little finger, normally left hand. Why is this? Those that have been to Egypt may have noticed this, I did often in Africa but my Mrs noticed it on her teenage students yesterday (here in portugal). She's completely bemused. I have a crude theory which I thought was true but will not say so yet so I can try to get some unbiased opinions. Thoughts anyone?

I have been told (in Thailand) that having long nails shows that you don't do manual labour, so if you do, it's only practical to have one or two, sort of styaus symbol stylee, though that may be bull shit!

I have also heard the coke spoon theory!

as someone said, sign of status and wealth that you dont have to do manual labour.

similar to why "fat" kids and wives are a sign of prosperity as you have more than enough food to eat.
