I really wish I could discuss the "twist" as I just couldn't reconcile it. When i described ti to my dad who had read the book years ago he seemed to think it was a little different, but if could be his memory

I think the "thug" element of Daniel C could be why I don't like him. All personal preference though. Look at Timothy Dalton - apparently the most faithful screen incarnation of the literary version and folk hated him.

I totally agree about the 12A rating though. There were some very young kids in when we saw it and I really didn't think it was that suitable. Alot of realisitic violence.
Ok the twist is a little different, in the book(set in the 1950`s) the reason for the problem is a brother, also the book has an attempt on Bonds life at the Baccarat table using a gun disguised as a walking stick, and the torture scene uses a cane and ends with the thug carving `death to spies`in Bonds arm with a knife.

I read that book over 20years ago!

If i could remember important sh1t like maths, physics and materials science with this level of clarity, grief i would be rich!

Yes it was.

Seen the film absolutely fantastic. I read all the bond books and he was a hard nasty bastard in pretty much all of them and in this film you could see more of the true character. I kind of gave up on Bond movies after Timothy Dalton. I haven't bothered going to the pics to see one since and i haven't really thought one was good since S C had the job but now at last we have a proper bond thats even better than Connery.

I'm sure it was seeing Thunderball as a very small child that got me into wanting to be a diver!

Went to see this last night. I'm a Bond series fan, so it was a film I'd been looking forward to and for me I wasn't disappointed.

I found Die Another Day soulless - a bit too much off the bond track. However, Casino Royale is excellent. It had that real 'Bond' feel to it, and a few in-jokes too - e.g. The police chief getting arrested in Montenegro is Michael G Wilson, who is one of the Production team.

The one thing I did notice, though, is that it was a massive advertising spiel (as others have noted). Sony Ericsson / Ford Automobiles (so Jags, Mondeos and Aston's) along with the shot on the boat and a 4 foot high 'Sunseeker' logo!

Also, why replace Chemin De Fer with Texas Hold'em? I suppose not enough people would understand chemin de fer to get the tension of the game vs Poker which seems to be the in thing currently?

If anyone enjoyed the Parkour section (the free running stuff) then see a film called District 13 - it's a Luc Besson film (the guy who did The Big Blue, which is my personal #1 movie, and Fifth Element) and it's mainly parkour - and I thought it was excellent. It's out to rent on DVD. It is French with English Subtitles, but don't let that put you off...

Oh - and Lou - it's the longest of all the Bond films - by 4 minutes!

Just come home from seeing it and thought it was absolutely fantastic. As another that was initially disappointed to see DC get the role of Bond I am not afraid to say I have changed my mind having seen the film - probably one of the best JB's to date IMO!

Product placement didn't bother me greatly - I see more brand names in a walk down the local high street than a flippin film and I guess it all helps with the film's budget so who cares.

One of the best films I have seen in ages - anyone know what the next one is likely to be ?

Apparently the serial is already in pre-production. The theory is that is why the ending of this was left as it was....
