how big a bird?

I know it's weeks and weeks to Christmas but as I'm ordering stuff from our friendly local internet farmers market, I need to know how big a bird I should order. There will be 5 adults and 4 kids, 2 of whom don't eat much. I'm going to have the turkey crowned. How big?

if you mean crowned ie. the breasts off and rolled then probably around 20-23 pounds, but allow a bit more for sandwiches curry etc.

Last Xmas, my dear old mum ordered a turkey and they delivered on Xmas eve whilst she was out. Left it in the garage.

I say, 'left' it in the garage, what I really mean is 'parked' it in the garage - it was bl**dy enormous - no way it would fit in an oven of any size, let alone her poor slimline thing.

Happily, they took it back and delivered a more sensible bird, but be warned!

we've been using them for a few months now, so have something of a relationship going.

For the record, I can heartily recommend (for people in the north west) Food delivery from Northern Harvest: Local, organic & farmers market food delivered to Cheshire, Lancashire, Manchester & Liverpool. - about the same price as major supermarkets for delivered goods, but locally produced, and far better quality.

If I was going to order a bird for xmas it would have to be Gizelle Bunchen. I think she is about 6 foot....is that a big enough bird?

Thinking about roast camel for xmas here.....
