| firearms just wondering what the YD massiveeeee think about the issue of firearms and shooting in general, and shooting by women in particular. Obviously It is something that affects comparitivly few of us, however those of us that use rifles or shotguns for business (in my case) or sport (hunting, target shooting and clay shooting) seem to get a little bit of a sideways look from the general public. I ask because I was field slaughtering some of my deer yesterday and got into a discussion with the bloke at the Abatior about how he thought it was a terrible thing to have a woman shooting the animals! I couldnt quite extract from him whether it was becuase im proficient with a high velocity rifle or whether it because it isnt "womans work" that it was terrible. anyway discuss Hazel

| Can't see anything wrong with it myself. My sister in law shoots so there are certainly a few of you out there. |

| I love to see a woman grasping a long hard repeater.

| I used to shoot clays a lot and I still have a valid licence and own a shotgun. As an observation there we far fewer female shooters than male ones. I think that it's because women do not see it as a "woman's passtime" than because men in shooting are sexist. I was in a range in the US once where an American woman was showing her English male friend how to shoot. Everytime I go, I let them show me how to load, anyway she did not because she already knew it all. How the guys in the shop laughed when they tred to remove the clip that she'd jammed in back-to-front Her attitude screamed 'heading for a fall' but that was because men don't have exclusive rights over being dickheads ![]() r Paul |

| shooting as a sport is where we used to say man and woman have an equal playing field. i dont see why women shouldnt/couldnt hunt/shoot as well as men, if anything they are probably better at it with less macho strutting. i have seen competitive amateur women shooters outclass their male counterparts. however, there should be some controls somehow (difficult to implement though) we had an incident where a new member of our team who we were training, one day went psycho. in some incident he barricaded himself in a room and took a gal hostage. security took him down but he managed to stab one of them. apparently he had err mental stability problems and hadnt taken his medication or something like that. hate to think of the consequences if he had decided to go psycho during training with live ammunition. |

| I like to shoot things My understanding of deer farming (never having done it - only regular farm animals) is that the little dears are too skitty to be carted away in a lorry to an abatoir and then electrocuted and have their head blown into by a bolt gun then hung up, their throat cut and gutted (like we do with the other things we eat..) I believe it is generally agreed that shooting the animal in the field is the most humane way to slaughter them?? As to women killing things.... Three words. Camilla Parker Bowles. Chris |

| I don't think there are any men only pastimes / hobbies / jobs anymore, or is there A long time ago I used to go with my friend and her dad when he went clay pigeon shooting it was a great day out. Some years ago I was interested in taking up the sport and went to a club to make some enquiries but I was living at home then and my Mum wasn't happy with having a gun cabinet in the house, I already did Archery Way back at school I was a member of the air pistol club so we used to shoot at lunchtimes. Hazel you are in a rural community I don't have a problem with you shooting for the plate, perhaps some of the men up there need a little educating. |

| I've always fancied a go at clay pigeon shooting. Never had the chance yet. I need someone to take me on a corporate shindig
