| Her stance is typical backlash from the Daily Mail reading middle English who think that PC-madness gives everybody else but them an advantage. I'd turn up at jobs where the poor member of the public had been waiting for hours because we just didn't have anything like enough patrols. If the punter was from an ethnic monority it would be, "You've kept me waiting because you are racist". If they were white it would be, "I bet if I was Asian you'd have been here in five minutes". Quite simply she has seen Islamic colleagues wearing headscarfs and no doubt over a coffee at break time has come up with the idea, "Yeah, but I bet they wouldn't let a white christian wear a cross" and decided to test it. The simple fact is, the BA customer service uniform incorporates a cravat, with which the wearing of any kind of necklace outside the uniform is totally impractical. I am sure the decision has nothing more to it than that. But no, let's turn it into a campaign. Political Correctness has at times gone too far (banning of christmas trees etc) and what we see here are the first signs of people getting fed up of it - justified or not.

| I dont, he he. I havent followed the case completely so dont know if she took the job knowing the conditions or not, I dont think it matters anyway. If she took the job knowing the conditions then perhaps she felt that the conditions were unfair and she should take the job so she could contest the legality or morality of the conditions, if th econditions were imposed aaafter she took the job then I think she should still have contested the position BA put her and themselves in. It does seem to me that it would be reasonable to allow external wearing of a modest religious symbol in our tolerant society should be allowed. Should a visitor take offence at such a symbol then I'm sorry for them but it would be totally out of order for me to go to say Israel and complain about a star of David being displayed by a local person. One should respect the customs of the country one visits and if you dont like them dont visit? Matt |

| Actually on reflection, I think that all god botherers should be made to wear overt signs of their "faith". Preferably a big flashing pointy hat with an arrow pointing at their heads and a scrolling message saying "Beware: this person believes in pixies, Father Christmas, supernatural beings and probably the tooth fairy in all likelihood".

Now, about Lazlo's idea, how about a pointy white hat that covers the whole face with just two holes in it for the eyes.... Chris |

BA are presumably going to go for a bland, vanilla type of customer facing approach, with a uniform that no-one can take offence to, even if they are spoiling for a fight. r Paul |

| Actually I think any religious sign is offensive. Religion should be for private consenting adults, not for minors or in public. We really should try to live in a secular society.
