I've heard reviews that say the 2 litre engine is "rougher" than the 1.9, whatever that means. I did have a 2.0TDI A3 recently when my car was getting serviced. It was very nice, and quite responsive. Took me a little while to get used to the DSG though.

Thumbs up

Mine a Diesel ex lease car. They have plenty of get up and go in them. They come with ~90k miles on the clock which is 'just run in' for a Diesel. I paid 6K for my Passat in August 05 - ex lease car 92k miles. The Skoda sounds very cheep and holding out for the 2.0D will give ~10 BHP (in the brochure at new) more but as its the newer engine you'll probably pay another ~£1k for it.

Do a quick search for Skoda Diesels on Autotrader and you'll figure 3K is not a bad choice. Yours will have full service history too.

I had the 1.9 golf tdi which i think is the same engine fast as feck (150bhp) but averaged 40 mpg even with my heavy right foot.

My poofey little Suzi Vitara is a nice drive, fits two sets of dive gear in with the rear seats folded up, is cheap to run and insure and second hand ones are cheap to buy. Not dissimilar, methinks, to what you're driving at the moment Turbie?

Oh, the shame of it all. Thank god I don't drive - at least I won't be spotted behind the wheel, and I can duck down if I see anyone I know

Pity you're not in Aus mate, you could pick up one of these for around $8000.

Overview – AU Falcon Station Wagon

Bit thirsty (but hey it's a 6 cyl) but reliable, cheap parts, easy to work on, huge cargo capacity, tows like a dream.
