Death! What's it good for?

Whilst Googling to try and find the 'right words' to put on the little card that goes on a wreath I came across many websites and found many good/clever quotes about death. :-

Isaac Asimov:
If my doctor told me I had only six minutes to live, I wouldn't brood. I'd type a little faster.

"I want to die in my sleep like my grandfather... Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car."
Will Shriner quotes (American Comedian, b.1953)

"Live as you would have wished to live when you are dying"
Christian Furchtegott Gellert quotes

7."At my age I do what Mark Twain did. I get my daily paper, look at the obituaries page and if I'm not there I carry on as usual."
Patrick Moore.

18."It's funny how most people love the dead, once you're dead your made for life."
Jimi Hendrix.

There were many more. Strangely, I still can't find the appropriate words for my card .

Having had a bit of recent experience in this apspect, I find the best words are perhaps not humerous or flippant, as they can so easily offend, it may be best to just state that the person will be sadly missed and was loved by many. I'm sorry bryan that you are having to write the words at all.
Best wishes.

Matt

Spike Milligans were good, on his headstone.

something simple and heartfelt is usually the best way.

What Matt said, heartfelt and personal, is always the way IMVHO.

Safe diving,

Agreed. Some people like to save the cards so that they can take comfort in knowing that other people miss the person too.

Sorry you're having to write one.

My words won't be flippant. I was searching for something that would give some comfort (which is impossible) when I spotted the ................

I'm in a personal lull of funerals at the moment. I have a lot to look forward to however this one is my brother's wife's Mum. I only ever met her once or twice so, from my POV, it is not the loss so much as the family grief .............

I've got to say that who ever invented this Universe could have done better with the death issue!

Unfortunately, I get dust in my eyes watching the credits of a Lassie film so when people are really distraught ...............

Anyway, thanks for your kind thoughts ..... I will direct them across the ether to those that really need them.

Tks
Bryan

Bryan,

Sorry you're in this situation, and I sympathise with you.

This afternoon I have attended the worst possible type of funeral, that of my next door neighbour's 12 year old daughter who was involved in a road accident last week.

I still have no idea what to say to him & can't comprehend what he must be going through.

Richard

What a terrible thing to endure. I doubt there is much you can say

I guess this is why humans have faith/religion.

FFS. I struggled to find some meaningful words that weren't just the usual mushy stuff and managed it this PM. I phoned SWMBO to let her hear my mini masterpiece only to find that my words shouldn't be addressed to the relatives but to the deceased.

Arrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I ended up going with the usual 'greatly missed' vibe.

I hope someone figures out this death thing once and for all, esp about the 'after life' bit. I remember the last funeral of a good social mate and thinking then that I am really starting to get cross about people dieing!!!

When I get home I'm going to stare at the whitest light I possess and see if I can see the answer!! I mean, it's bloody outrageous expecting people to develop feelings for each other etc and then have them die!!!

Well, all I can say is there had better be a bloody good reason for it all or else I might have to say something ...................
