| Balls that Clang - 2 VERY Brave Guys Well today 2 very worthy recipients received the recognition their bravery deserved when Corporals Budd and Wright of the Parachute Regiment received Posthumous VC and GC respectively. These two guys showed outstanding bravery and grit saving their colleagues and are a true credit to this country and their Regiment, I've read about their deeds quite a bit and they truly show what the British Army Junior NCO is all about, Corporal really is the rank that tells on the Battlefield and these guys are prime examples of the very best. Cpl Bryan Budd VC Cpl Mark Wright GC

| Also a note to say congratuations (and I apologise for teh sketchy details - I left the metor on the bus) to your 19 year old girl you was the first woman to be awarded a medal (of a certain class) I'm sorry the details out of my brain are sctechy - if someone has a copy of todays metro maybe they can fill it in. But basicaal she climbed on top of a warrior under heavy fire to drag out her commander who'd been shot int eh face. I don't think she's got balls that clang per say but she's sure is one hell of a woman! K XX [Edit] Found her - The Military Cross was awarded to Private Michelle Norris of the Royal Army Medical Corps - First woman to ever receive the MC

| How come the one guy got the George Cross? I thought that was for civilians. I've just finished watching the 3-part series on the VC that Channel 5 ran recently. It was a bit OTT with all the dramatisations and the voice-over was clearly aimed at the US market but it was powerful stuff all the same. It beggars belief what some guys are capable of when their mates are in trouble. |

| The Difference between the VC and GC is to do with Enemy Action, in this case it would be because his bravery was in a minefield and trying to get his guys out of that by co-ordinating his own side. Many GC's have been won by Bomb Disposal guys over the years. There is too me some grey areas but the awards panal will have very clear guidelines on it

| Just checked on Wikipedia. The VC is awarded for valour 'in the face of the enemy' which would explain the minefield and bomb disposal scenarios leading to GCs George Cross - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Victoria Cross - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Some interesting reading and links to every recipient. |
