If you can't be bothered to write in complete sentences then why should I be bothered to read it?

No, it just feels like it.

Back on thread, people who use abbreviated, unpunctuated text, or 'TXT speak' may have very interesting points to make but I find reading their posts so difficult I just give up trying.

I use predictive text on the mobile, which cuts out the need for TXT SPK. It may take a bit longer, but at least the person on the recieving end can read it at normal speed, rather than taking ages (which I seem to do) translating it.

It's about giving whoever is going to read what you write/type/text the desire to read and understand it.

Problem for me is that by the time I have figured out how to write in Text thingy I could have written the message in full, TWICE!
Must be an age thing.

Hmm, language has always been evolving and text speak may be another step in the evlolution. As an example Modern English lacks the dual forms in nouns that old and middle english had e.g. [1]

First Person Singular Dual Plural
Nominative ic (I) wit (we two) wee (we) [2]
Genitive min (mine) uncer (of us two) uure (our)
Dative mee (to me) un (to us two) uus (to us)
Accusative mec (me) uncit (us two) usic (us)

So you can just imagine the same sort of argument over "correct" english (or in fact any language) has been going on ever since the language came into existance [3]

[1] From; Mathmatics - From the birth of numbers. Jan Gullerg 1997 Pg.4
[2] Double vowels indicate a long vowel e.g. ee as in keen
[3] I've just got back from the pub so I may be talking bo**ocks
