| Mobile phones are the new VCRs. There came a time when my Dad simply could not program the VCR - how we laughed at his botched attempts to record the Only Fools & Horses xmas special. Now, I find myself in a similar situation. I too, punctuate my text messages flawlessly, and am completely incapable of grasping this 'predictive texting' lark. I"m only 28. Help |

Morning Hairy Ahhhh it sounds as if you have not quite evolved completely yet and may even still continue to scrape your knuckles on the floor as you walk (may I suggest?) Move to an area where there are more suvverners and your evolutionary development will continue I am sure. Yaz ![]() |

| although not a fan of it, i use some "txt speak" to shorten my text messages occasionally but if its concise, objective and accurate, I see no problems with it at all. I dont have a problem reading it but do when they start mixing in slang which is incomprehensible to me. Probably not the best analogy (in terms of direct relevance) but the chinese language went through a somewhat similar phase going from "traditional" to "simplified" chinese. there are arguements both sides which is better and that you have to keep the "purity" of your language etc. |

| Sorry, I'm another one for full language use. I struggle to understand when my daughter or son sends me a text message in TXT SPK... aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh... I too use apostrophes within my messages. If I am chatting to the kids on MSN, they reply using symbols and pictures within the text.... aaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh... please, please, please - it doesn't take much longer to (if any) to write reasonably well.

| I can understand why some people dislike text speak, and poor grammar, but at the end of the day we are all different, and that difference, is part of YD's diversity. I for one wouldn't presume to judge anyone for their style of posting, and I feel the tone of threads like this can be likened at times to playground bullying. It's the message that's important, not the wrapping it comes in. Safe diving, Steve

Electronic communications, be it email or text, or msn etc can so easily be misinterpreted by punctuation, grammer. Speak to someone on the phone, or face to face, and it is much easier to convey your thoughts. How many posts every day could be read as insults, except for the little smiley at the end, or the green grin? I would say then, that the 'wrapping' is just as important. I was always told 'It's not what you say, but the way you say it' that counts.
