| Plumbing help pretty sure there are loads of people who can help me with this on YD. was going to do some maintenance on my loo, before I destory it by mistake just wanted to check. has been a good no. of years since i did my plumbing 101 course in college (and never used it again) it flushes occasionally but most of the time it cant get enough suction to create a vacuum so I reckon I need to replace the diaghram as its probably knackered. please correct me if I am wrong. 1) Just wanted to check that you can buy just the diagphram itself? pretty sure you can. as the DIY shop I went to only sold the full float valve assembly kit. I dont have time to go to the larger stores check and only go the smaller ones on the way to work. 2) are there any other parts I might as well replace since I'm going to drain the cistern. if i recall there is another diaphram at the flushing lever part, or will it be a case of aint broke dont fix it. 3) can I determine the sizes of the diagphrams without dismantling bits? so I can buy it first rather than finding out I dont have the correct parts and be Loo-less for a day or two. Pretty sure the parts should have standard sizing and labeling as will probably ask the woman of the house to get the parts. More shops need to open outside of core working hours also am I correct in assuming that the prices for said parts will be around £1 at the most? or am I dreaming. |

| Hi Think you need to change the diaphragm - however, it's best really to change the whole syphon. The one you need is called the Dudley Turbo. Can be a tricky job though - don't attempt it if you don't feel confident. Also, if your loo is the close-coupled type, get yourself a close-coupling kit as you will probably need to replace that as well before you refit the cistern. In fact to be sure, post a pic of your khazi on here and I'll have a look at it for you - blimey that sounds weird.............Syphon is about £15, cc kit will be about a fiver at Travis Perkins or similar, don't think you'll get them at the small shops or B&Q. | I've just fixed mine so if a girl can do it you can too. Replace all the syphon thingymajig. You can buy them at B&Q. It is such joy flushing again now it is working. It's these little things in life that cheer you up isn't it?

| It will be much cheeper at the local plumbers merchant with a trade counter. Just (turn off the water) remove the broken one and take it along with you. They're usually quite helpfull with these things. Dave C (I guess no one got my joke? Look at Wet and Broke's current occupation |

thanks for the responses, will look into it a bit more, was probably being a tightwad wanting to just replace the diaphragm (spelt it right this time!). guess it makes sense to replace the whole lot and a lot easier as well. |

| It's only about £15 for the whole thing.
