| Putting LPs onto CD? To the gathered intelligent masses on YD, I have just had an email from my Mum who is contemplating putting all her Mum's LPs (my Gran) onto CD. They have a record deck which I am sure has a headphone socket or phono out and a pretty basic PC. What else do I need, hardware, software? Oh and I know she needs loads of time to do it Regards

| Lots of time and some software cooledit / Adobe Audition? or a USB Turntable deck :-) and lots of time! Then something to burn the MP's to CD, usually just Nero or the like. Time is your biggest enemy here. Lots of LP's / Cassettes dont convert very well as you end up with quiet bits in the tracks being converted into two seperate tracks and you need to join the tracks back together. Hence a decent bit of software will let you put the LP on, record the lot and should do a decent job of splitting the tracks up. Then all that matters is for you to edit the ID Tage info for the MP3's and if you wish to burn the MP3's off to Audio CD. You can pay for this to be done, cant remember the name of the company that doe sit but you sould find a few on the interweb. Hope that Helps Davie.

| Sorry my first option was exactly that just not said very well. You need a phono stereo jack to mini jack for headphone out to sound card in. Then you need software to record the tracks (Adobe Audition or Cooledit Pro or the like) Then you need to either A: edit the ID Tags for the MP3's or just burn them straight to CD using Nero.

| Depends how complicated you want to make it. You could record each album into a .wav file using sound recorder (accessories->entertainment it think). If you want you can record each track individually or you can get a sound editor (I'm sure there used to be one in Windows) to chunk it. Then, if you want to convert it to MP3 using CDEX or similar. Do a search for 'fre sound editor' on google and you should find something easily enough. Hope this helps Conor

| For free stuff have a look at audacity and the lame encoder. It's a bit more powerful than Sound Recorder.
