Heeeeeeeelp 11+ Question

OK you clever people, my daughter is stuck on this one. I got the answer correct but my wife does not agree with me and wants an explanation.

There are 5 shapes and the question is:

Which of the above solids has more faces than vertices's

I said B which is correct because it has 8 faces and no vertices's if i am correct and a Vertex is surely a vertical line?

However my wife points out the cube on the left has four vertices's and 6 faces? so that also has more faces?????

Then we looked at the other shapes extruded triangle, flattened cube extruded hexagon. They all seem to have more faces than vertices's.

So can someone please explain why the answer is the diamond?

Christ i hate it when your 10 year old reveals just how thick you really are.

Vertex is a corner. The octahedron has eight faces and 6 vertices.

In geometry, a vertex (Latin: corner; plural vertices) is a corner of
an angle: the point where two rays begin or meet, where two line segments join or meet, where two lines cross (intersect), or any appropriate combination of rays, segments and lines that result in two straight "sides" meeting at one place. In Euclidean geometry, an endpoint is not a vertex unless it is the endpoint of two or more segments or rays (or segments and rays) and is thus very different than a graph theory vertex.
a polygon: any point on the polygon where two sides (line segments) meet or connect.
a polyhedron: any point where three or more edges meet or connect to each other. The edges are the connections (line segments as shared sides) of two or more faces (polygons).

This is 11+ Coo.

Mine was 1+2=? type stuff

Mind you, at 12+ (whatever it was called) we were doing If x=1 and 2x+y=5 then what is y type questions - yuk, I always hated algebra.

You're getting confused with edges (which are the lines).

People often get confused between me and Brad Pitt.
